The Catholic Archbishop of Lagos, Most Rev. Adewale Martins, has enjoined Muslims to use the Eid-El-Kabir celebration to promote religious harmony and peaceful coexistence in the country.

Martins, in a goodwill message to Muslims, congratulated them on the festival, urging them to embrace the exemplary life style of Prophet Ibrahim (Abraham).

According to him, like Prophet Ibrahim, Muslim faithful must always be ready and willing to make personal sacrifices in their journey through life, in order to gain divine favour.

He condemned religious killings, calling for religious harmony and tolerance amongst various religions in Nigeria.

The cleric said that there was need for all Islamic scholars to use the Sallah period to condemn all forms of religious intolerance.

“Judging from the incessant attacks on Christians by some Muslim zealots in the North, it is obvious that they are being misguided by false teachings. This is why there is need for all Islamic scholars to teach their followers that Islam is truly a religion of peace and not of violence,’’ he said.

Martins urged Nigerians, especially the leadership, to intensify effort in ensuring that Nigeria gets out of the current economic recession in the soonest possible time.
