The Daudu Fagaba in the Ilorin-West Local Government Area of Kwara state, Alhaji Ola Sulyman Alabi, has charged youth of the community to acquire entrepreneurship skills in addition to Islamic and western education.
He said acquiring entrepreneurship skills was necessary in order to uplift their economic status stressing that relying on white collar jobs in the face of the current economic recession could not help them.
The highly revered community leader spoke at the annual national CONFAB of Fagba community and distribution of empowerment materials to 14 artisans, organised by the Fagba Youth Development Association (FYDA) and the Elders Committee.
Suleiman admonished the youth to shun all social vices including,hard drugs taking, unlawful assembly and other social vices that might ruin their lives.
He however directed the president of the association to write all Fagaba sons in high positions of authorities to always visit their country home and make their presence felt by contributing to the community’s development.
He reminded those in diaspora that they have no other place to fall back except their ancestral home.
Chairman Elder Committee and Head of department,Social Studies,College of Education,Ilorin,Alhaji Jimoh Ibrahim said this year’s CONFAB was specially designed to guide and assist the youth to become responsible citizens.
He said role models were chosen amongst them (youth) as guest lecturers to inspire others and discourage those who might have negative minds.
President of the association,Mallam Yahayah Kehinde,in his address the association floated the empowerment scheme to put a smile on the faces of members of the community.
