Lubricants producers cry out over loss of revenue to fake products

Members of the Major Oil Marketers Association of Nigeria (MOMAN) and Lubricants Producers Association in Nigeria (LPAN), in Kwara have cried out over loss of revenue as a result of activities of illegal operation of fake operators.

Engr Kolade Habeeb, spokesman of the two associations told Journalists on Tuesday in Ilorin that the lubricant producers were losing over 25 percent of their earnings to the illegal operations of fake lubricant operators.

He said the activities of these illegal lubricants producers in Ilorin have become source of grave concern to members of the associations.

It may be recalled that the Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC), sealed off three illegal lubricant blending plants in Ilorin.

The illegal companies were Woopex Company, Segmax Oil company and Manna Business Venture.

The companies were sealed off for allegedly counterfeiting lubricant oils using the names of major manufacturers in auto lubes.

Habeeb therefore appealed to the federal governments and security agencies to do more to fish out unlicensed and illegal lubricant manufacturers in the state.

He said activities of the illegal lubricant plants had caused negative economic and environmental effects to people and society.

Habeeb added that the two associations were not only against such economic sabotage, but had recorded great losses because of their nefarious activities.

The associations’ spokesman said they appreciated efforts made so far by security agencies at apprehending illegal lubricants plants, denied allegation of connivance with such people.

“We are against adulteration of lubricants. We won’t connive with anyone, be it marketer or any entity to adulterate lubricants. It’s illegal and sabotage”, he said.
