UNILORIN VC becomes AWAU Chairman ……. John Wood, Adenuga to deliver 32nd convocation lectures

indexTHE LEADERSHIP of the Association of West African Universities (AWAU) has appointed the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ilorin, Professor AbdulGaniyu Ambali, as its new Chairman.

The Spokesperson of the University, Mr. Kunle Akogun, in a statement issued on Tuesday said: “AWAU has been unanimously elected UNILORIN’s VC as the new Chairman. The election was one of the highlights of the 4th Annual Conference and General Meeting of the Association held at the Universite Felix Houphouet-Boigny, Abidjan, Cote d’Ivoire, between October 2 and 6, 2016.”

He however expressed Professor Ambali’s readiness to take the association beyond its current stating adding that high level of discipline and focus on issues relating to academic scholarship will top the agenda of the association during his tenure.

Meanwhile, the Secretary General of the Association of Commonwealth Universities, Professor John Wood, is expected to deliver this year’s Convocation Lecture of the University of Ilorin next week Thursday.

According to the Registrar of the University, Mr. Emmanuel Dada Obafemi, “the Lecture, entitled “The Future of Universities”, is one of the highlights of the 32nd Convocation of the University holding at the University Main Auditorium between October 17 and October 22, 2016.”

He added that “the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Globacom Plc, Dr. Michael Adenuga Jnr., will also deliver a Convocation Address on Saturday, October 22, 2016 at the University Auditorium.”

While unfolding the 32nd Convocation programme, Mr. Obafemi disclosed that the ceremonies will kick off on Friday with a Special Jumaat Service at the Unilorin Central Mosque, while a Special Church Service will also be held on Sunday, at the Chapel of Light, University of Ilorin, for the success of the convocation.

“The Convocation Play titled “The Vanity of Human Desperation”, an adaptation of Kola Ogunmola’s The Palmwine Drunkard, which will be staged on Tuesday, October 18, 2016 at the University’s Performing Arts Theatre by 4.00 p.m” , the Registrar said.
