Return of remaining Chibok girls should be national priority – APC

The Federal Government has been urged to do everything it takes to secure the release of the remaining Chibok girls still in Boko Haram’s captivity.

This was the opinion expressed by the Osun chapter of the All Progressives Congress in Osogbo today.

The statement was issued from the party’s Directorate of Publicity, Research and Strategy and signed by its director, Barr Kunle Oyatomi.

“This should be treated as a national priority, because nothing will be considered too great or expensive to give, in order to save the lives of these girls,” Oyatomi said.

According to him, the Federal Government has demonstrated that the life of every Nigerian is important and should be primary responsibility of the state to protect.

He said the abduction of the Chibok girls was a terrible tragedy that brought avoidable shame to our national psyche which portrayed the country as a place where life was taken for granted and treated with levity.

“But with the release of 21 of these girls last week,  coupled with the news that Boko Haram was willing to release the rest, we can now breathe a sigh of relief that the odium that surrounded  Nigerian authorities over Chibok girls will soon be over’, the party said.

APC said that government cannot delay further the release of the other  victims and urged that ‘everything necessary and possible’  should be done to bring a quick resolution to this unfortunate event.

The party pointed out that the tardiness and lack of empathy for life by operatives of the last federal administration was the reasons these girls have been allowed to suffer this much for so long.

“If corruption had not blinded those responsible for the protection of life and property in the country at the time the girls were abducted over two years ago, this tragedy might  not have lasted that long.

“We therefore urge the federal government to expedite the resolution of this crisis by going one step further to give all it takes to get the rest of the Chibok girls back.

“It is the most appropriate thing to do now that Boko Haram is willing to play, the APC said.
