Kwara LGs polls: We can’t conduct election now– APC

LEADERSHIP of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kwara state, yesterday clarified reasons why the state government cannot afford to conduct the council poll now.

The part said that giving the present economic reality, the state cannot afford to spend ‘over N1bn’ on council election.

Royal News reports that tenure of the current administrations of the state’s 16 local government area will expire on November 10.

The state government is tinkering with the idea of constituting Transition Implementation Committees(TIC) for the councils in order to save scarce resources.

The APC in a statement by its publicity secretary in the state, Sulyman Buhari, also dismissed a media report which suggested that there is a brewing crisis in the party over the nomination of members of the proposed TIC.

The statement reads in part: “It is utterly untrue that there exists brewing crisis in our party over the appointment of persons into the Transition Implementation Committee. Therefore, we urge members of our party in Kwara state to disregard the misleading report.

“While it is true that the leadership of the party has requested for the submission of names across the 193 wards in the state, we want to emphasise that we have experienced party administrators in our party.

Therefore, we can assure party members and the people of Kwara state that the nomination process into the proposed Transition Implementation Committee will be hitch-free. The party will ensure justice and equity in the entire process.

“We also want to assure party members who tirelessly worked for the success of the party during the elections that their contributions will not be in vain.

As a party,  we believe that the idea of the Transition Implementation Committee (TIC) for the 16 local government councils in the state is in the best interest of Kwarans, considering the fact that our State cannot afford to spend over N1bn on Council elections in the face of economic reality”.
